Bettering Darjeeling Tea

With as many as 87 estates in Darjeeling growing 8.5 million Kg of Darjeeling tea in an area of 17500 hectares, the Darjeeling tea planters are all set to demanding a higher subsidy than normal for upgrading the bushes for better & quality production.

The process mentioned above would undergo uprooting and replanting newer bushes which would take anywhere between 5 to 10 years to fully grow to its size for quality production. The initiative was taken in order to encourage tea planters of Darjeeling to phase out older bushes, which have poor yields and hence poorer quality teas.
The proposal for the subsidy has been submitted before the planning commission.

With a sight set high for Darjeeling Teas in the coming years, this is Niranjan Naulakha, of Darjeeling Tea Boutique, sipping the second cup of this wonderful first flush 2012 Darjeeling Tea from Gopaldhara and wishing the best outcome for the planters and the tea lovers in general in the form of better production and quality teas as is expected of from Darjeeling Teas.
