History of Risheehat Tea Estate ( and Liza-Hill Tea Estate)

Risheehat Tea Estate, a garden producing premium Darjeeling Teas, was formerly known as Tshering Bagan when the British established the garden in the 1900s. It was so named because of the higher population ratio of a local tribe known as Tshering. It was later re-named Risheehat meaning the home of the holy sages. (Rishi=Sage; Hat=Home). In 1955, Risheehat Tea Estate was acquired by the Jayshree Tea Group, a group owned by B. K. Birla Group of Companies and is still managed by the same group which has upped its tea quality year after year and today produces one of the top graded Darjeeling Teas. It is also one of the oldest unit acquired by the group.

This Darjeeling tea garden is located about 14 to 16 kilometers south-east of Darjeeling town. It is bounded by Arya tea estate in the east and Chongtong Tea Estate in the West. The garden faces the mighty Himalayas and are visible form the town as this garden faces towards the Darjeeling town. This tea garden is divided into two major divisions namely, Risheehat and Liza-Hill tea estate. This Darjeeling tea garden is situated at an altitude of between 2500 ft. to 4800 ft.
