History of Barnesbeg Tea Estate
It was the year in 1877 which saw the seeds of tea bushes being planted at this tea estate by Christine Barnes thus initiating the century long heritage of this tea estate. The naming of this tea estate has been derived from the planter, hence the name of the garden Barnes-‘bagh’ meaning Barnes’ garden.
Location of Barnesbeg Tea Estate
Barnesbeg Tea Estate is located at a distance of 15-17 kilometer from the main town of Darjeeling, and is located in the north-west of the region in the Lebong Valley of Darjeeling facing the blessing winds and picturesque view of the Kanchanjunga in the north.
The average elevation where the tea bushes are grow ranges between 300 meters to 1260 meters. It is about halfway down the slope from Darjeeling. The actual area under tea cultivation in approximately 130 Hectares of the 288 Hectares under its management.
Ownership of Barnesbeg Tea Estate
This century old tea garden from Darjeeling is onwed and managed by the Goodricke Group. Goodricke Group also manages a number of top tea gardens from Darjeeling and the North Eastern region.

The management of this Darjeeling tea garden is capable of producing the best of both black teas and green teas but its fan following for green teas exceeds the black tea lovers.
The Darjeeling teas produced are mostly china bushes which are in good demand domestic market as well as in the global market.
Barnesbeg Tea Estate was fully certified as an organic garden in the year 2010.
